Los Angeles Local Elections
The Primary Election for local Los Angeles elections occurs on March 3, 2020 and will include seven LA City Council Districts (2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, and 14) along with the 2nd Supervisorial District of Los Angeles County. Per our UFLAC bylaws, our Political Action Committee (PAC), which consists of Chairman Freddy Escobar, Chuong Ho, Domingo Albarran, and Frank Lima, have led the candidate endorsement process for these important elections and UFLAC is supporting 7 candidates who have a long track record of being champions for our Firefighters and making sure that public safety is a top priority in Los Angeles.
This March Primary is an important election for the men and women of UFLAC Local 112. The Mayor and the 15 members of the Los Angeles City Council determine the working conditions and staffing levels at the LAFD along with the wages, benefits, and retirement plans of our members. The future of our department is dependent on having elected officials who support our Firefighters and the LAFD.
On January 23, 2020, we will be hosting a Special Meeting where all UFLAC members in good standing will have the ability to decide if they are willing to authorize spending UP TO $500,000 for the March 3rd local elections in support of the UFLAC endorsed candidates. It is important to note that NO ADDITIONAL MEMBERSHIP DUES are being asked for in order to fund this campaign. This funding, if approved by the membership, will come from savings that we have accumulated over the years for exactly this purpose – to help elect men and women who will support our Firefighters.
Please come to this Special Meeting and ask your UFLAC PAC Committee members questions about this election and this proposed expenditure. We look forward to hearing from you and hope to see you on January 23rd.
