BULLETIN 43 – 22 MEMBER ALERT
Bulletin 43 – 22
September 20, 2022
MEMBER ALERT
This is a follow up to Bulletin 42-22 which was sent on Friday, September 16 regarding the email from the LA City Personnel Department that many of our members received relevant to COVID testing.
Since this issue was brought to our attention, UFLAC has made it perfectly clear to the City that any changes to the terms and conditions of employment that were imposed on UFLAC members by the City in 2021 will be fought by our Union.
Yesterday (Monday, September 19) our attorney sent a written notice to the CAO and the Fire Chief informing them that UFLAC will oppose any and all new conditions of employment that are not bargained and agreed to by our Union. This includes any provision that will require our members to pay an undisclosed amount for ongoing testing or that our members be forced to submit insurance information to Bluestone prior to their arbitrary deadline of Friday, September 23rd.
We have demanded that the City cease and desist from implementation of any of the provisions that were detailed in their original email from September 15, and we have further demanded to meet and confer over this issue. We are still waiting for a formal response from the City.
We will send another update either Wednesday, September 21 or Thursday, September 22 – but for the time being, UFLAC is asking all impacted members to continue to hold tight until further notice.
The original message from the City Personnel Department was sent without any explanation or clarity and it almost certainly violates our current terms of employment. For these reasons, we have demanded to meet and confer and will continue to fight any and all efforts to implement these new requirements without agreement from UFLAC.
We will send additional information with any new information that we gather. In the meantime, if you have questions please continue to reach out to any UFLAC Executive Board Member.
In Solidarity,
Executive Board
