MEMBER UPDATE

Dear Members,

On Thursday, December 2, the Court heard oral arguments from UFLAC and the City regarding whether the Court should stop the City from implementing new terms and conditions of employment relevant to the vaccine mandate.  UFLAC had asked the Court to step in and stop (through an injunction) the City from moving forward with implementation while the ERB processes the unfair practice charge filed by UFLAC.  We knew we had an uphill battle since most courts are rejecting requests for injunctive relief for anything regarding employer vaccine mandates – especially in more liberal jurisdictions like Los Angeles.  Unfortunately, the Court denied UFLAC’s request.

We fully expect the City to move forward with its plan.  As it does, we would like to remind those who will be placed on leave and those who are subject to discipline for not complying with the vaccine mandate to contact UFLAC ASAP so that we may provide timely assistance and representation.

While we are disappointed with the outcome, we will continue to fight to protect the rights of all UFLAC members.  UFLAC is still pursuing the unfair practice charge and we will provide updates as they become available.

In Solidarity,

UFLAC Executive Board
