IAFF – LOCAL 112 UNION ELECTION – PRESIDENTIAL RUNOFF RESULTS

To all of our Local 112 Sisters and Brothers,

The United Firefighters of Los Angeles City (UFLAC) Election Committee met on December 19th, 2022, at our IAFF Local 112 union hall to complete the final election runoff process, of counting and verifying all the votes for the President of the Executive Board. The Election Committee began meeting and preparing for the Local 112 Executive Board elections back on August 23rd, 2022.

As a reminder, on November 18th, 2022 – the Election Committee completed the process for the Executive Board and Negotiating Team elections. However, pursuant to Article V (OFFICERS AND ELECTIONS) Section 8 of the UFLAC (IAFF – Local 112) Constitution and By-Laws requires the President to be elected by a 50% plus 1. This majority requirement was not met; therefore, it forced an historical situation in our Local’s history, a runoff election for UFLAC President between the two top candidates:

• Freddy Escobar (630 votes – 47.0%)

• Anthony Ferro (604 votes – 45.1%)

The goal of the Election Committee was to be compliant with the Constitution and By-Laws of UFLAC -IAFF Local 112, the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF), and the United States Department of Labor (DOL) voting provisions. The Election Committee worked independently from the Executive Board ensuring full transparency to the Membership.

The UFLAC Election Committee worked with the California Elections Committee (as has been the UFLAC past practice), a professional election company, that directed and oversaw all actions of the UFLAC Election Committee, counted all votes in a voting machine, with professional witnesses, all while having open doors at the union hall for candidates on the ballot or any member in good standing to observe.

The entire Election Committee wants to sincerely thank the Local 112 Membership for their trust in allowing them to oversee, and more importantly ensure, a fair democratic labor union voting process. The Election Committee provided integrity to the election process and a proud democracy for our labor organization.

The Election Committee wants to thank everyone who voted and participated in the voting process for their union, and congratulations to the re-elected Local 112 President.
