Happy Holiday Season
Happy Holiday Season
Dear LAFD Members and Families:
The Peer Support Team of United Firefighters of Los Angeles City, IAFF Local 112 (UFLAC) and the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) wish you and your families a very Happy Holiday Season.
First, it must be acknowledged that this year has been painfully challenging. The worldwide pandemic has affected all of us in so many ways. The impact has been wide-ranging, too many of our family members have gotten sick and, sadly, some have paid the ultimate price. All of this is on top of working for one of the busiest Fire Departments in the world.
Soon, despite everything, we will be observing the holidays. We may not be able to celebrate in the ways that we prefer and are accustomed to, but we will find ways to celebrate that fit the times we are living in. Flexibility, faith, adaptability, and hope will help to see us through. Our core values and our ability to lean on each other will get us through the most difficult days. Whether we are able to be together in person or virtually, we will celebrate the holidays with our loved ones and good friends. We will approach the new year with a confidence that things will change for the better and soon we will be able to take off our masks once again!
Our mission is always to be there for our brothers and sisters in the fire service as well as our fire families, especially during your greatest time of need. Finally, for those of you who may have recently lost a loved one or are newly divorced or separated, these life circumstances can make the holidays even more challenging. If you find yourself struggling, please reach out to one of our trained Peer Support Team Members. Please click HERE for the Peer Support Team Roster, which includes your colleagues in the LAFD who will maintain your confidentiality and help you through your struggles.
Additionally, UFLAC has created the Center for Health and Wellness located at old Fire Station 81 and FS 7 prior to that. The recently remodeled facility officially opened its doors on September 28, 2020. The Center has a robust Behavioral Health Program to serve our LAFD members and families. The Team includes: Director of Behavioral Health and Marriage and Family Therapist Dr. Steve Froehlich, Clinical Psychologist Dr. Sami Tamburro, Director of our Employee Assistance Program Nancy Mraz, Marriage and Family Therapy Intern Vera Rodriguez, and Health and Wellness Coordinator Maria Rendon.
Everyone on our Team is available 24/7 for urgent matters and for scheduled appointments Monday thru Friday. Contact information for each Team Member as well as our Fire Department Psychologists is included below.
Thank You and Happy Holidays!
